TV host Gary Collins was arrested on suspicion of DUI after an accident in the San Fernando Valley, police say.
Investigators say Collins, 69, was not at fault for the Tuesday evening crash, but was found to be under the influence.
Collins was driving a Ford Explorer at about 5:30 p.m. when a Toyota driven by an 89-year-old man allegedly failed to yield to oncoming traffic and collided with Collins, said Los Angeles police officer Norma Eisenman.
Collins’s car then hit two parked cars.
“When officers arrived on the scene, they detected alcohol on Collins’s breath,” Eisenman said. “He failed a field sobriety test, and was booked for misdemeanor DUI. He was cooperative.”
Collins, who was not injured, was taken to the Van Nuys Jail, and later bailed out at $40,000.
The other driver was listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
Collins’s arraignment is set for Nov. 16.
The actor is most remembered as the host of Hour Magazine and The Home Show.
A rep for Collins wasn’t immediately available for comment.
