Two teenage boys in Texas were charged with killing a 15-year-old girl – and they were attempting to make a deal with the devil, say prosecutors.
On Feb. 5, Jose Reyes, 17, kidnapped Corriann Cervantes and ultimately killed her with a toilet tank lid, according to court documents. A 16-year-old boy, who has not been identified because of his age, was also charged.
“They discussed the fact that Mr. Reyes had sold his soul to the devil,” Assistant Harris County District Attorney John Jordan told the Houston Chronicle on Tuesday. “And if they ended up killing this teenager, it would also allow the 16-year-old to also sell his soul to the devil.”
Three days after Cervantes was killed, her partially-clothed body, which had an upside-down cross carved into her stomach, was found in an abandoned apartment near the NASA-area of Houston, officials say. Jordan added the girl was stabbed, beaten and sexually assaulted.
“During the course of events, this teenager screamed, ‘Why are you doing this to me?’ and attempted to run from the apartment,” Jordan said. “They stopped her and this became a kidnapping and eventually she was killed.”
Both teens were charged with capital murder. Reyes is being held in the Harris County jail without bail. The 16-year-old is in the Harris County Juvenile courthouse.
