A suspect has been arrested for causing the crash that sent a car careening into a day care outside Orlando, killing one child and injuring at least 14 more.
Authorities conducted a statewide manhunt for Robert Corchado, a 26-year-old with a lengthy criminal history of drug charges and extortion. Dozens of tips flooded into the Crimeline, one of which led to authorities finding Corchado’s abandoned Dodge Durango.
As the pressure mounted on Corchado, he surrendered to authorities on Thursday afternoon. “I believe this community will not tolerate this,” says Florida Highway Patrol Spokesperson Cindy Williams. “I think he listened and he did the right thing.”
Corchado is accused of causing the crash by forcing another car off the road – and straight through the front wall of the KinderCare Day care. Four-year-old Lily Quintus was pronounced dead at the scene; a 3-year-old remains in critical condition. Other children have been treated at local hospitals and released.
Corchado is being held on $100,000 bond. He faces charges of leaving an accident that caused a death.
