Michelle Rounds was hospitalized after an apparent overdose Tuesday, PEOPLE has learned.

A source tells PEOPLE that Rounds and her ex Rosie O’Donnell got in contact during the incident and O’Donnell stayed on the phone until Rounds was taken to the hospital.

According to TMZ, Rounds was taken to a local hospital in Nyack, New York, late Tuesday night after overdosing on pills.

Clarkstown Police were dispatched at about 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday to the Doubletree hotel in Nanuet, New York. Officers contacted a 44-year-old woman, who was subsequently transported to Nyack Hospital, Officer Peter Walker confirms to PEOPLE. Due to medical confidentiality, they are not releasing names or medical conditions connected to the incident.

Rounds’ lawyer told Entertainment Tonight she “is okay.”

O’Donnell, 53, filed for divorce from Rounds in February on the grounds of an “irretrievably broken relationship.”

Rounds has been seeking custody of their 2-year-old daughter Dakota.

In April, O’Donnell’s rep told PEOPLE that Rounds seeking sole custody is “an absurd attempt to use a child for her own gain,” while a lawyer for Rounds told Page Six the attempt “is unequivocally in their child’s best interest and general welfare.”

In May, Rounds missed the first court hearing in the estranged couple’s divorce case.

O’Donnell has also been experiencing family turmoil with her 18-year-old daughter Chelsea, who went missing in August and was later found at the home of alleged heroin addict Steven Sheerer, 25.

Chelsea has since moved out of her family’s New York house.

O’Donnell has shared several poignant messages on social media recently, retweeting a picture of a quote about not giving up “when your heart becomes tired” on Thursday, as well as retweeting a follower who advised O’Donnell to deal with “emotional discord” by meditating.

O’Donnell also posted a collage of her children, which includes a photograph of Chelsea (top right).

Rosie O’Donnell’s rep declined to comment on the hospitalization. Rounds’ lawyers did not respond to a request for comment.
