After sifting through more than 150,000 pieces of evidence, police this week officially shut down their investigation, reports Chasen’s hometown paper, the Beverly Hills Courier.
The gunman, Harold Martin Smith, later killed himself as officers were attempting to take him in for questioning in the case.
Chasen, 64, was shot multiple times while driving her Mercedes-Benz in Beverly Hills in the early morning hours of Nov. 16, 2010, after leaving an afterparty for the premiere of the movie Burlesque. Afterwards, unsubstantiated rumors emerged that she had been the target of a professional hit.
Smith killed himself on Dec. 1, 2010.
One new detail to emerge in the past seven months: the gun used to commit Chasen’s murder – she was shot four times – had been stolen from a police officer during a burglary in the San Fernando Valley, reports Reuters.
Chasen’s brother, screenwriter Larry Cohen, declined comment except to tell the news service, “whatever the police release, they release.”
