She had a promising career in modeling and television and a budding relationship with an Olympic hero, all of it, her uncle laments, snuffed out in one violent moment.
“Who would ever think that someone who had so much going for her would have her life cut short so soon,” Mike Steenkamp, the uncle of slain FHM model Reeva Steenkamp, tells PEOPLE.
Reeva, 30, was found Thursday fatally shot in the South Africa home of boyfriend Oscar Pistorius, the famed “Blade Runner” who made history last year as the first Paralympian to compete in the able-bodied Olympics. Pistorius, 26, is charged with her murder.
“Reeva’s family had no clue that there were any problems in her relationship,” says Mike Steenkamp. “This was a complete bolt out of the blue.”
In addition to her modeling, Reeva appears on the South African version of TV’s Survivor in an episode airing on Saturday that “will be very traumatic” for her parents Barry and June to watch, says Mike Steenkamp.
“All her visions she had will never materialize,” says Mike. “Everything that she was doing has come to an abrupt end. It’s tragic.”
