Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor died Tuesday morning, a day after he was shot inside his home in Florida.
Taylor, 24, passed away at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he was airlifted after the shooting Monday morning.
“This is just such a tragic, horrible, unnecessary death – another example of the incessant violence in this city and this country,” Richard Sharpstein, Taylor’s attorney, told the Miami Herald early Tuesday morning.
Sharpstein also told the paper that the Pro Bowl player was shot after confronting burglars.
Taylor, who was shot in the lower body, suffered massive blood loss from a severed femoral artery. His family and loved ones maintained a vigil overnight.
The gunman remained on the loose.
