Paula Deen is fighting back against a lawsuit filed on Monday by a former employee of a restaurant she co-owns with her brother.
Lisa Jackson – who worked for five years as the general manager of Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House in Savannah, Ga. – claims in legal papers that she was regularly subjected to sexual harassment by Deen’s brother Earl W. “Bubba” Hiers and that Deen, 66, made racist comments.
In a statement released Tuesday, Deen’s attorneys at law firm Oliver Maner refute the allegations made in Jackson’s filing, saying in a statement, “We investigated those claims and attempted unsuccessfully to address those claims with her.”
Calling Jackson’s assertions “baseless, inflammatory allegations,” the statement goes on to say that the lawsuit is an attempt to “ruin Paula Deen’s reputation.”
The statement continues, “We look forward to our day in court.”
