Could Oscar Pistorius soon be a free man?

The double-amputee Olympian was sentenced to five years in prison last October after he was found guilty of culpable homicide for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

But a parole board is set to recommend that Pistorius, 28, be released after serving just 10 months in jail, according to CNN.

Pistorius fatally shot Steenkamp through a toilet door in his home. He testified that the shooting was an accident because he mistook his girlfriend for a nighttime intruder.

Steenkamp’s parents are outraged by the early release, CBS News reports. “Incarceration of 10 months for taking a life is simply not enough,” June and Barry Steenkamp said in a statement to the parole board.

“We fear that this will not send out the proper message and serve as the deterrent it should.”
