The unresponsive body of a 38-year-old dermatologist was found in the doorway of a Manhattan apartment building early Sunday, police say.
At about 8:30 a.m., officers from the New York Police Department responded to a 911 call about an unconscious woman. Kiersten Cerveny was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Cerveny’s cause of death has not been determined. “The investigation is still ongoing,” an NYPD spokesperson tells PEOPLE.
It’s still unclear how Cerveny ended up in a doorway of an apartment building, about an hour away from her Manhasset, New York, residence, on Long Island.
Cerveny leaves behind two children, according to reports, and her husband Andrew, also a dermatologist. Their 2009 wedding was covered in The New York Times.
Robert Rickenbach, Cerveny’s father, told the New York Daily News from Arizona that she was visiting a friend in New York City.
“She was supposed to stay with a friend,” Rickenbach said.
