A Maryland couple is facing human trafficking and child abuse charges after authorities have accused them of injecting a 15-year-old girl with heroin and forcing her into prostitution.
PEOPLE obtained a statement from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office, which confirms Darlene Louise Allen, 35, of Federalsburg, and Paul Thomas Owen, 26, of Greensboro, were arrested on April 4.
Authorities began investigating the couple in early January after receiving a tip about the alleged abuse. The statement reveals Allen and Owen allegedly injected the teenage victim with heroin numerous times, and investigators have also accused Owen of having sex with the girl.

The couple allegedly bullied the girl into performing sex acts with several men over a three-day period inside a Denton hotel in exchange for drugs and money, the statement says. Additionally, authorities also allege that Allen and Owen drove the girl to Delaware and forced her to prostitute.
Allen has been charged with reckless endangerment, neglect, child abuse and human trafficking. The statement alleges Allen also had sex with men for money during their stay at the Denton hotel. Owen is charged with sexual solicitation, sex abuse of a minor, drug possession, neglect, reckless endangerment, human trafficking and child abuse.
Both are being held without bail, and court records fail to indicate whether either defendant has entered a plea.
