A massive, area-wide manhunt for a New York City man who allegedly stabbed the mother of his 3-year-old daughter before abducting the toddler ended with his arrest Tuesday evening in New Jersey.
A New Jersey State Police spokesman confirms to PEOPLE that Diomedes A. Valenzuela was arrested shortly after 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Clifton.
Troopers stopped Valenzuela’s minivan along the Garden State Parkway, the spokesman says. The 47-year-old was detained, but information on what charges he’ll face in New York was not available Wednesday morning.

On Twitter, New York City Police Department officials explained that Valenzuela allegedly abducted the child from her home in The Bronx.
The girl’s alleged kidnapping led to an Amber Alert being issued.
The girl was recovered unharmed, the spokesman says. But her 31-year-old mother is in serious condition at St. Barnabas Hospital.
