Jason Kidd’s time as a New York pro athlete is off to a poor start, as the point guard – who signed with the Knicks on Thursday – has been charged with driving under the influence after crashing his Cadillac in the Hamptons early Sunday.
Kidd, 39, a future Hall of Famer, was treated for minor injuries after driving his Escalade into a telephone pole in Water Mill, N.Y., around 2 a.m., New York’s Daily News reports.
He was then arraigned on a misdemeanor DUI charge and released.
Kidd reportedly attended Ne-Yo and George Lucas’s “Fostering a Legacy” benefit in East Hampton ealier in the evening.
A California native, Kidd has a summer home in the Hamptons. An 18-year veteran of the NBA, he signed a three-year, $9.5 million deal with the Knicks this past week.
