A 52-year-old Florida man was arrested over the weekend on lewdness charges after he allegedly told them he attended a public holiday event to “pick up” an underage girl, PEOPLE confirms.
Herbert Alan Hamblen III, 52, was detained on Saturday after officers watched him approach a group of young girls during an event staged at a local park, according to a statement from Lake City, Florida, police.
The girls were dancing at the event, the statement reads, and Hamblen was allegedly “seen getting extremely close to them, almost rubbing up against them.”
Police intervened and escorted Hamblen away from the children.

During questioning, Lake City police say Hamblen informed them he was at the event to “pick up a little girl” who he claimed he intended to make “feel good physically.”
“He added he ‘likes them as young as they get,’ ” reads the statement.
His alleged behavior and his statements to officers about underage girls was enough for police to take Hamblen in on charges of disorderly conduct and lewd and lascivious behavior involving a victim under the age of 16.
Hamblen is being held without bond. Information regarding Hamblen’s attorney was unavailable Tuesday.
