Police responded to a call about a person with a knife at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. When they entered the home, they found two victims dead, the Associated Press reports. A third died after he was taken to the hospital.
The victims, whose names have not been released, were all brothers, ages 1, 5 and 12 years old, New Bern Police Chief Toussaint Summers, Jr., said, according to ABC.
Two others were injured in the attack as well – a mother and a sister who have since been released from the hospital. Authorities say the victims and the suspect knew each other, but were not related.
The 18-year-old, who was identified as Eh Lar Doh Htoo, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, the AP reports. More charges are expected.
Htoo will appear in court on Thursday.
