Chris Brown was arrested on Friday afternoon after reportedly being kicked out of rehab.
The singer had been court-ordered to live in the Malibu, Calif., facility for anger management therapy but was booted out, according to TMZ, for violating the facility’s “internal rules.”
The Los Angeles Country Sheriff’s confirms to PEOPLE that Brown was arrested and says in a statement that the singer “was cooperative when taken into custody” for a probation violation relating to his 2009 assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna.
The 24-year-old, who is being held without bail at the Inmate Reception Center of the L.A. County jail, was originally placed on probation after being found guilty of the attack on Rihanna, but in November he was sentenced to three months of in-patient rehab after being charged with misdemeanor assault following a fight outside the W Hotel in Washington D.C. That case is set to go to trial on April 17.
In February an L.A. judge ordered him to stay in the Malibu rehab facility for another two months. Brown, who was recently diagnosed with PTSD and bipolar II disorder, could be further penalized by the judge as a result of Friday’s arrest.
