A roadside miracle drew an outpouring of admiration from readers this week after a child was saved from near death by a stranger who was, as they say, truly in the right place at the right time.

Readers, however, were outraged by a story of a mother who allegedly kept her son sick for years, even as she traveled the country seeking medical help and writing innocently about his plight before the boy died at age 5 from sodium poisoning.

Here are the top five stories that drew the strongest responses this week, from wow to LOL. Check them out below, and be sure to let us know what you think of every story by clicking on the icons at the bottom.

Good Samaritan Bryant Collins sparked nothing but affection from readers after the auto repairman chanced upon a baby on the shoulder of the road about to crawl onto the highway. The Georgia man quickly stopped, scooped up the infant girl – who had crawled 300 yards away from her home – and cradled her as he waited two hours for rescue personnel, soothing the crying 15-month-old with gospel music from his phone.

Yes, they are twins, but they weren’t born on the same day. Readers were wowed by the story of Kansas City, Missouri, brothers Carl and David Cowan, born 39 days apart after their mom went into early labor at 23 weeks with Carl, who weighed barely a pound. Mom Elene stuck to bed rest until David was born six weeks later.

A mom from Westchester, New York, has been charged with murder after allegedly poisoning her son for years with a high dose of sodium, in what prosecutors characterize as an attempt to curry sympathy for herself. Lacey Spears, 26, pleaded not guilty to one count of “depraved murder” in the death of son Garrett, 5, who died from massive brain swelling in January, after years of medical treatment and multiple surgeries.

Casey Kasem, with his inimitable voice, spoke to generations of radio listeners as he counted down the week’s top hits. The 82-year-old’s death on June 15, from dementia, saddened readers as they fondly remembered a radio icon who urged them to “keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.”

No detail is too small for Kanye West, who left readers in stitches after he revealed it took him four days to edit a photo of him kissing wife Kim Kardashian on their wedding day. The shot, he claimed, needed to be perfect because of “how important Kim is to the Internet.”
