An Arkansas father faces negligent homicide charges in the drowning death of his two young children, who were in a pickup truck alone when it rolled into a pond, PEOPLE confirms.

A press release from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office states that deputies responding Wednesday evening to a report of a missing pickup truck with two children inside, in Paron, discovered the truck in a nearby pond. Two children — a 2-year-old girl and a 6-month-old boy — were found inside and were pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital, the release states.

Jonathan Daniel Welborn, 30, faces two counts of negligent homicide, according to online jail records. According to the Arkansas Democrat-GazetteWelborn is the father of the children.

Welborn and Brittany Nichole Hairston, 26, who according to multiple reports is the mother of the children, both face endangering the welfare of a minor charges.

According to CBS affiliate THV11, Welborn allegedly told police he’d been driving the truck with the children inside before the fatal incident. He was drug tested and allegedly admitted to police to smoking methamphetamine that day, the outlet reports.

Police allege Welborn and Hairston were playing pool inside a home when the truck rolled across the highway and into the pond, the Democrat-Gazette reports.
