Amy Winehouse Cleared in Assault Case

Posted on

Amy Winehouse was celebrating Friday after being cleared of assaulting a fan.

The singer, 25, who had pleaded not guilty, remained poker-faced as Chief Magistrate Timothy Workman delivered his verdict at court three of City of Westminster.

He told the court that he “cannot be sure that this was not an accident. The charge is therefore dismissed and defendant discharged.”

Winehouse had been accused of striking dancer Sherene Flash, 27, who had approached her, asking for a photograph at a charity ball in London in September.

Her father Mitch told reporters, “We’re delighted.”

The “Back to Black” singer exited the courtroom in a business-like white blouse, gray jacket and black mini skirt, complete with pearls and pink ballet pumps – and then got back to black in a nearby room, where she changed into a black leather jacket and black skinny jeans.

She said little beyond a quick, “I’m going home, bro” – to a female reporter.

Winehouse spokesman Chris Goodman, standing on the court steps, said, “Amy would like to thank her family, friends and legal team for their support during this difficult time. She has always maintained her innocence and is very happy to move on with her life and put this episode behind her.”
