Alek Skarlatos paid his ailing buddy Spencer Stone a visit at the hospital over the weekend, where Stone is recovering from being stabbed multiple times last week.

Skarlatos and Stone are two of the three Americans who helped foil a terrorist attack on a Paris-bound train in August. On Saturday, Skarlatos visited his pal at UC Davis Medical Center, posing for a selfie with him.

“Saw the hero today,” he captioned the pic.

Stone, 23, is in fair condition after undergoing surgery to treat three stab wounds he sustained in a fight outside a Sacramento nightclub.

A witness told PEOPLE that Stone was defending a woman when he was attacked.

“A big group was walking down the street and they went into the intersection,” Eric Cain, who works at a liquor store near the scene of the fight, said. “One of the guys hit one of the girls and the guy who turned out to be Spencer Stone went after that guy. It happened really quickly.”

In August, Stone a U.S. airman, courageously helped stop an attack on a Paris-bound train from Amsterdam. He sustained a serious injury while trying to subdue terror suspect Ayoub El-Khazzani on the train. El-Khazaani, who is accused of opening fire on the train, allegedly stabbed Stone with a box cutter. Stone needed surgery to reattach part of his hand.

Police are still searching for the people who stabbed Stone.
