Judge Marsha Revel is making headlines this week for sentencing Lindsay Lohan to 90 days in jail. But the high-profile case isn’t the legal veteran’s first brush with celebrity.

Who is Judge Revel? Here are five things to know about the 63-year-old Los Angeles native.

POLL: Do You Have Any Sympathy for Lindsay Lohan?

1. She’s spent a day in a celeb’s shoes – literally!
Growing up in Los Angeles, Revel’s mom was an assistant to Judy Garland and Zsa Zsa Gabor. “Judy Garland and I had the same shoe size,” Revel has said. “So she gave my mother six pairs of shoes. I threw them out later, not realizing their worth.”

2. She enrolled in law school to be close to a boy
Until her junior year of college, Revel was an ordinary student at California State University in Los Angeles. It was then that she matriculated at L.A.’s Southwestern Law School. Why? “I enrolled at the law school because a boy I was dating was attending,” Revel has said.

3. She’s tried celebrities before
Revel, the judge responsible for sentencing late-rapper O.D.B. to two years in prison, has also presided over Hayden Panettiere‘s father’s domestic abuse case and a member of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony’s disturbance charges.

4. She passed the bar exam on the first try
Once she did decide on a career in law, Revel applied herself, and she passed the rigorous bar exam on her first shot. “I remember I called my father and told him, ‘Your daughter is a lawyer,’ ” Revel has said. “My father said, ‘I’m standing in the middle of the store and I’m crying. I’m so proud of you.’ ”

5. She works out at work
Nothing helps Revel relieve job-induced stress quite like sweating it out in cardio workouts. “I try and use [the treadmill] as often as I can,” she says of an exercise machine she once had stationed just a few feet away from her desk when she worked downtown.
