A little more than a month after husband Garth Brooks announced his long-awaited comeback, it was Trisha Yearwood’s turn.
On Tuesday night, the Grammy and CMA award winner announced a new record deal with Sony Nashville and a new album, PrizeFighter, her first in seven years.
“I am really nervous,” Yearwood admitted to several hundred friends and colleagues gathered at a party to welcome the singer/cookbook author/Food Network star back to Nashville. “I haven’t been out of the house in a while! There’s so much going on my management team has to text me every 30 minutes to tell me where to be and what I’m doing.”
In addition to appearing with Brooks on his upcoming world tour, which kicks off in Chicago on Sept. 4, Yearwood will launch the fifth season of her Emmy-award winning show Trisha’s Southern Kitchen on Aug. 23 and the next day, will introduce her new line of Trisha’s Precious Metals cookware on QVC. She’ll also publish her third cookbook this spring.
As for the new album – release date to be announced – Yearwood said the title track is “a song about beating the odds, about fighting no matter what and about winning. It’s a message I think we all need to hear.”
She continued, “When I got my first record deal at 26 I looked at my career like a pro ballplayer. These guys come have their time, have a few good years but they have to know when they can’t swing the bat anymore. It’s been 23 years since that first single and I’m just not ready to stop swinging the bat.”
While Yearwood and Brooks are on the road, work will continue on the house the couple is building in Nashville. “I’m so happy to be back, and doing what I love,” she said. “As long as you’re having fun doing what you’re doing, you have to keep on doing it.”
