The Voice’s Lauren Duski has become season 12’s resident queen of country ballads — but during Monday night’s live show she showed a different side of her talent.

As Gwen Stefani put it, the rising country singer “graduated to an up-tempo song” and delivered a strong performance of Wynonna Judd’s 1993 hit “Tell Me Why” that was met with praise from all of the judges.

“I love singing ballads, and it felt like I finally got to show a different side of me and people probably didn’t expect it,” Duski told reporters after the live show. “I was really excited about it.”

Before taking the stage, Duski received a phone call from none other than Judd herself.

“I have been a fan of hers and singing her music since I was a little girl, so it was such an honor,” she said of the call. “I knew [it was her] immediately when the accent came through, and she was so kind. I don’t know, it was crazy. She gave me the best advice.”

Judd shared some words of wisdom that country legend Tammy Wynette gave her when she was opening for her on tour — “There is only one Tammy. You just be Wynonna and don’t try to be anything else.”

“She told me to do the same even though I was covering her song,” Duski shared. “I am honored she took the time to talk to me.”

After her performance, Duski’s coach, Blake Shelton, called her “the missing piece in country music right now,” and the fact that her cover of “Tell Me Why” currently sits at the top 10 of the iTunes chart is a testament to that.

“It’s pretty amazing how you get up there, and you are vulnerable with everyone, and you see that resonate with people,” she said. “It really blows your mind that people care that much.”

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
