The year was 2008 and Shea Stadium was sold out as pop superstar Billy Joel performed the final concerts ever at the home of the New York Mets.
Joel spent two nights performing his hits with a little help from famous friends like Tony Bennett and Paul McCartney.
But for country fans, the highlight was Garth Brooks joining the Piano Man onstage July 18 to sing the power ballad “Shameless.” Joel originally released the song in 1989 on his album Storm Front, and saw it reach No. 40 on the adult contemporary charts. Brooks recorded his own version of the song two years later and took it to the top of the country charts, his seventh No. 1 hit.
Clad in a Mets jersey and backward baseball cap, Brooks belted out the song while Joel accompanied him on the piano. And the crowd went wild when the two dueted on the final verse.
