While most people were focused on Faith Hill‘s short hairstyle on the Oscars red carpet last Sunday – a chic look that nearly matched husband Tim McGraw‘s sleek style – a few were focused on a different part of the singer.
Namely, her neck.
Eagle-eyed watchers noticed a scar on the “This Kiss” singer’s exposed neck – and wondered about the cause.
Fortunately, PEOPLE has the answer.
The country star, 47, had neck surgery last month to correct damage stemming from an injury a couple of years ago, a source confirms to PEOPLE.
The procedure, known as an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, is generally used to relieve pain from a herniated disc.
Hill first had surgery for the issue in 2011 in the back of her neck, the source confirms, adding that her recovery is going well with the aid of physical therapy.
Indeed, Hill looked so glamorous on the carpet that her husband, who memorably performed Glen Campbell’s hit “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” at the award show, couldn’t help but sing her praises.
“She looks pretty hot, huh,” he told ABC’s Lara Spencer during ABC’s red carpet pre-show. “I married up.”
