In her opening monologue at Wednesday night’s CMT Music Awards, host Kristen Bell dedicated a song to the two hottest accessories among the sexy men of country music: belt buckles and moose knuckles, a term we will not even try to explain. (Click the link if you’re curious.)
A list of the best moose knuckles of the CMT Awards would be inappropriate, but the best belt buckles? Yeah, that’s doable. (It also happens to be the mold for the night’s award.)
And if your eyes should wander south well, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Check out the dudes keepin’ it country with their big belt buckles below. Who wore it best? That’s what our grades are here to tell you.
GRADE: F. No belt buckle for young Mr. Hayes. We get that it wouldn’t have fit with his fashion-mag-savvy look, but the rules are the rules.
Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line
GRADE: B+. It matches the necklace, which is stylish in an understated way, but the color and print are a little too Topshop for the CMTs.
GRADE: B-. Tough. Authoritative. Your bog-standard big belt buckle.
Joshua Scott Jones
GRADE: A-. Points for size – and for sparkle. We just wish Jones could have wowed us a tiny bit more.
Keifer Thompson of Thompson Square
GRADE: B. A fine buckle, but you’ve gotta unbutton that jacket, Keifer. Let that belt breathe!
GRADE: C. He’s not even a country singer, but he’s gotten into the spirit of the genre. It’s just too bad the buckle is the Chanel logo and not a pair of horseshoes.
GRADE: A++. This is how you do it. This belt buckle is gold, it’s glitzy, and most important, it’s emblazoned with the name of one of Moore’s songs. Why work the red carpet when you can make the red carpet work for you?
GRADE: D-. Is this a country awards show or a Pitbull video?
