Country’s biggest stars came together for a night of making music and celebrating success at the 2014 CMT Music Awards.
Pope, 24, won breakthrough video of the year at Wednesday night’s show, broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. The “Wasting All These Tears” singer fit in some playful banter with presenter Shelton during her acceptance speech.
“What do I do?” she exclaimed after taking the stage, to which Shelton replied, “Still coaching you.”
The season three Voice champion, who took her mom as her date for the night, explained her nervousness to the audience, saying, “I still need him for some stuff. I still need him around to calm me down.”
Shelton followed up Pope’s big win by picking up best male video for “Doin’ What She Likes.” He jokingly offered BFF and fellow nominee Luke Bryan a playful peck.
“I honestly am shocked to be standing here holding this. I’m freaking out because Cassadee won, I’m so excited for her, so y’all have made this already an unbelievable night for me,” he said before turning back to his bromance. “I’ve got to buy Luke a very expensive dinner, but I’m okay with that as long as I win this thing.”
Shelton’s wife, Miranda Lambert, also took home a buckle, winning female video of the year for the fifth time in a row with “Automatic.”
Earlier, The Band Perry picked up the night’s first award, group video of the year, for “Done.”
Bryan was speechless standing next to the musical icon, telling the crowd, “I won an award with Lionel Richie. That’s all I gotta say.”
Bryan also won collaborative video of the year with Florida Georgia Line for “This Is How We Roll.” The group later scooped up duo video of the year after being nominated for two separate songs in the category.
