Create & Cultivate is a conference for ambitious women looking to manifest their professional dreams alongside like-minded chicas. The colorfully curated, Instagramable event took place in Los Angeles on Saturday and tickets sold out almost instantly, as it often does since its inauguration in  2012. The diverse panels included fan-favorites such as Puerto Rican-American model and activist Denise Bidot, Dominican, Haitian, and Puerto Rican-American creative Francheska Medina, Hello Giggles Co-Founder Sophia Rossi, and many more, who engaged the next generation of superstars on topics ranging from influencer marketing to brand building and raising money.  Keynote speakers included Kim Kardashian West, Jen Atkin, Chrissy Teigan, and Lauren Conrad. We sat down with the event’s Senior Event Producer and Sponsorship Manager Nikia Rodriguez to get an inside look at the coolest women’s conference around.

PEOPLE CHICA: Tell us about your role at C&C.

NIKIA RODRIGUEZ: Everyone on the team has to wear a lot of hats. The reality is we are all producers, craft services, carpenters, coffee grabbers, and sponsor relations departments. Being able to be effective and efficient in a range of roles is important!

PC: Do you feel well-represented at C&C as a Latina?

NR: I’m extremely proud to be part of a team that prioritizes inclusivity. As a second generation Dominican-American, it’s important that our conference operates as a safe space for women of all backgrounds. Given the national discourse around immigrants, it’s that much more critical that we foster a welcoming and inclusive environment, as well as promote entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds.

PC: What does C&C hope to accomplish?

NR: Our goal is to create a safe, fun community (digitally and in real life) for the next generation of creatives and entrepreneurs to meet other like-minded women and to give them access to tools and resources for their careers and businesses.

PC: What was the most exciting C&C event you’ve ever participated in?

NR: Without a doubt Los Angeles 2018! With over 1,200 + attendees, 60 plus brands and 80 speakers, we wanted to show our hometown what we were made of and if I do say so myself, we brought it.

PC: Who has been your favorite speaker over the last six years?

NR: I was personally mesmerized by the women on the Body Positive panel, which included Jessamyn Stanley, Tess Holliday, Mama Caxx, Ericka Hart, and Danika Brysha. The panel members felt like a true representation of C&C, and touched on a lot of “taboo” subjects that women are faced with every day. The audience and our production staff was hanging on every last word.

PC: What’s next for the conference?

NR: Working on finding ways to visit more cities across the U.S. My favorite Latina blogger and businesswoman, Cyndi Ramirez-Fulton of Taste The Style and Chillhouse is going to speak at our upcoming “Women To Watch” Austin pop up in partnership with Fossil. I’ve been a long time reader of her blog and I love her personal style. I’m also in awe of how quickly she has grown the Chillhouse brand. She is killing it and I can’t wait to watch her speak.

Create & Cultivate conferences are held nationwide and operate three times a year.  The event hosts 800+ business savvy chicas and sells out with record-breaking regularity. Check out C&C to find out when they’ll be visiting a city near you.
