After a trailer video leaked of Telemundo’s El Secreto de Selena—a TV adaptation of journliast Maria Celeste Arrará’s book on the late singer Selena Quintanilla—fans were outraged by the graphic content.
The video depicts the murder of the Tejana superstar, starting off with a gunshot, followed by an actress playing Quintanilla leaving a motel room covered in blood. The blood is trailing behind her as she makes her way to the motel lobby. Arrarás and Yolanda Saldívar, who was convicted of the murder, are also played out in the show.
The emotional scene from the 1997 movie Selena where she drops her ring while in the ambulance is also recreated but this time featuring a pool of blood on her hand.

In January, Arrarás announced that her book would be made into a mini-series with the same title. Fans were angered by the upcoming project and even organized a petition to stop the TV adaptation from happening. Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, also spoke out declaring war with the journalist.
“You, Maria Celeste, are full of crap. Your book is based on a whole bunch of lies,” said Suzette Quintanilla on her Instagram Stories. “You know where those lies came from? Your source is a person who killed, cold-heartedly murdered my sister, shot her in the back and left her to die. It makes my stomach sick. What kind of world do we live in?”
Arrarás told People en Español, “The book is based on serious and meticulous research, but it was written with admiration and respect in memory of Selena.”
