Marco Rubio stepped into the Twitter limelight again, days after causing a social media frenzy for a failed hug with Ivanka Trump. Twitter users ambushed the senator after he tweeted a religious proverb that they assumed targeted President Donald Trump.
“If a wise person disputes with a fool, there is railing and ridicule but no resolution. Proverbs 29:9,” tweeted Rubio.
Over the past couple of months, the Florida Republican has tweeted numerous Bible quotes, but this one stood out particularly to Twitter users, who began to make assumptions about the “fool” that he was allegedly speaking of. Naturally, the Twittersphere started cracking jokes that included calling the Senator “Little Marco,” which was the nickname Trump gave him during the 2016 campaign.
These assumptions were made given Rubio’s turbulent relationship with Trump. He is on the Senate Intelligence Committee that’s investigating whether Russia interfered with last year’s election. “The best thing for the President and for America is for there to be a full and thorough investigation,” Rubio told Fox News.
Last month, the Internet had a fun time mocking a photo of Rubio apparently giving Ivanka Trump an awkward hug. The two, who met at the Capitol for a meeting with lawmakers about new child tax credit proposal, poked fun at themselves soon after on social media. “Just left Intel comm & informed meeting 2day with @IvankaTrump blowing up Twitter over alleged failed hug! Investigating. Will respond soon,” jokingly tweeted Rubio. Ivanka retweeted him adding in, “Anonymous sources say @marcorubio planned the alleged failed hug. I have no comment (but I would have hugged him anyway!).
