Who better to learn bachata – the Caribbean dance that originated in the Dominican Republic, from than the “prince of bachata” himself, Prince Royce?  That’s exactly what happened on Live with Kelly and Ryan when the 22-time Latin Billboard Award winner appeared on the show for the first time to perform his hit single, “Deja vu.” After his performance, the Latino superstar gave Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest a mini dance lesson.

“I was born and raised in New York, but I would go to the Dominican Republic every summer. And that’s where I found out about the rhythm and started singing bachata,” he told the two hosts.

Ripa and her new cohost Seacrest—who also spoke a little Spanish—learned the Caribbean dance quickly. They paired up to show off their moves while Royce danced with one lucky guest from the audience.

In March, Prince Royce and Shakira—who also contributed to the record—released a dance tutorial on their social media. The duo asked fans to show them their best hip action. “We want to see you dancing bachata. Watch the #DejavuVideo and upload your videos with the hashtag #DejavuBachata,” Royce captioned his post.

Just like Kelly and Ryan, Shakira seemed to have gotten into the rhythm of the dance thanks to Royce. She posted several videos before the song’s video release practicing her dance moves.
