Baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez, 28, and his wife Cynthia, 31, are expecting their first child this fall, PEOPLE has learned.
Following the Yankees’ 8-7 win over Baltimore Tuesday night, the third baseman told reporters that the baby is due in late November and that he and his wife should find out in a month whether they will have a boy or girl. “We’re very excited,” he said.
In February, Rodriguez – better known as A-Rod – joined the Yankees from the Texas Rangers. He’s baseball’s highest-paid player, having signed a $252 million, 10-year contract in 2000.
The AL MVP, who also was named to PEOPLE’s 50 Most Beautiful list, married Cynthia in November 2002 at his mansion in Dallas. The couple have been together since 1996, after meeting in a Miami gym, and they recently posed together for Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue.
