Professional surfer Lisa Andersen married her fiancé Tim Shannon on May 21, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.
Andersen, 39, who won four consecutive World Championship titles from 1994-1997, tied the knot with Shannon, an amateur surfer, in a private ceremony at an undisclosed location.
The couple announced their engagement in 2007 at the annual Roxy Pro surf competition at Sunset Beach, Hawaii, saying they planned to marry at a “secret spot.”
In 1992, Andersen became the first ROXY-sponsored athlete. She withdrew from the sport after a severe back problem, but came back in 2000 to win the Billabong Pro in France.
Next for Andersen is coaching the U.S. surf team for this year’s X Games in Puerto Escondido, Mexico.
