LeVar Burton is rounding up his friends from the final frontier to help bring Reading Rainbow to every child.
In late May, the Star Trek actor launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $1 million to go toward bringing Reading Rainbow‘s expansive digital library to schools for free. Burton was shocked to reach the donation goal less than 24 hours after the Kickstarter launched. With the hope of helping even more children embrace the power of books, the Reading Rainbow campaign recently adjusted its donation goal to $5 million.
To help meet this new mark, Burton has called upon his fellow Star Trek actors from Next Generation and the franchise’s other series. Reading Rainbow has set up several live reading events in both New York and Los Angeles featuring the Enterprise‘s former passengers. Those signed on to read include Star Trek captains Patrick Stewart and William Shatner, along with Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes and Orange Is the New Black‘s Kate Mulgrew.
Donating $1,200 to Reading Rainbow‘s campaign will get you a pass to one of these Trekkie dream events. Add an extra $500 to your gift, and fans can even meet the actors after the show. Grab your Earl Grey tea and check out the campaign’s page.
