William Petit, whose family was murdered in 2007, has welcomed a baby boy with his new wife, Christine.
The couple had a healthy baby boy named William, PEOPLE confirms.
Dr. Petit’s wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, and daughters, Hayley, 17, and Michaela, 11, were killed after two men entered their Connecticut home and held them hostage for several hours before burning down the house.
Petit and photographer Christine Paluf met when she began working for the Petit Family Foundation, which he established in his family’s memory.
Jennifer’s sister told PEOPLE that her family was happy he’d found love again. “Mom, Dad and I have said to him since early on, ‘We want you to look for love again. We want you to be happy,'” Cindy Hawke-Renn said last year.
Jennifer’s father, the Rev. Richard Hawke, said he believed his daughter and grandchildren would have approved of Petit’s marriage and new baby.
“They were certainly the kind of people that looked out for others,” he said in August. “I think they would be pleased. He’ll always have a space in his heart for them.”
