CATHERINE’S CARBS: Catherine Zeta-Jones, 33, is bent out of shape by reports that she lost weight thanks to the no-carb, high-protein Atkins diet, reported the Smoking Gun Web site. A warning letter sent last week to media outlets by the “Chicago” Oscar winner’s Century City, Calif., law firm said that she had become aware that her “likeness and persona have been improperly linked” to the “world-renowned Atkins diet,” and that this incorrect info is “falsely representing to the average reader ? that Ms. Zeta-Jones would recommend this diet to any person looking to lose weight.” The legal letter said that no link between Zeta-Jones and the Atkins plan should ever be made.
STRAIGHT EYE: An hour-long special, “Straight Eye for the Queer Guy,” which will flip the format of the hit Bravo show, is now in the works, reported Variety. The trade paper goes on to say that the show will be a one-shot special and will air sometime in 2004. The special spinoff will take the “Queer Eye” formula but recast it with five strapping straight men (as yet not selected) who will make over a gay guy. The original Fab Five dream team — Carson Kressley, Jai Rodriguez, Kyan Douglas, Ted Allen and Thom Filicia — may or may not participate, according to Variety, which provided only the sketchiest of details.
SIMPSON SITCOM: Famously blonde pop star Jessica Simpson, 23, has reached a deal with ABC to develop a comedy — a sitcom, unlike her MTV reality show, “Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica,” the Associated Press reported. “Jessica has infectious energy and unmistakable star quality,” said ABC entertainment president Susan Lyne, according to the AP. “She also has a built-in fan base in both music and television, which is a great jumping-off point for us.”
SLATER IN STITCHES: Christian Slater, 34, required 20 stitches to the back of his head after his wife Ryan Haddon allegedly hurled a drinking glass at him during an argument at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas on Monday, police told Reuters. Haddon, 32, who has been married to the actor since February 2000, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery after the incident, though Slater declined to press charges, said a police spokeswoman. It’s now up to prosecutors to decide whether to pursue a case against Haddon.
LOVE’S CALL: Looking disheveled and telling reporters that the charges were “retarded,” Courtney Love pleaded innocent in Beverly Hills Municipal Court Wednesday to two felony drug counts, reported the AP. The former Hole singer, 39, faced charges of illegally possessing painkillers when she was treated at a hospital for an Oct. 2 overdose. The two painkillers, hydrocodone and oxycodone, can be prescribed legally. “I didn’t even break a law. I didn’t even shoplift,” Love said before the hearing. Reuters reported that, afterward, she claimed, “I didn’t do anything. Someone left a pill at my house.”
