HEY, JUDE: In an eye-opening public apology to his fianc e Sienna Miller, Jude Law expressed his “sincere regret” over an affair he’s had with nanny Daisy Wright, who tended to the Alfie actor’s children. “I just want to say I am deeply ashamed and upset that I’ve hurt Sienna and the people most close to us,” Law said in a statement. ROWLING RECORD: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, published at midnight last Saturday, sold a record 6.9 million copies in the U.S. in its first 24 hours. Yet before sitting down to the keyboard again (for the seventh and final book in the series), author J.K. Rowling foresees spending time with her 6-month-old daughter, Mackenzie Jean. “I have already done some work on it and I am still doing little bits and pieces, but realistically I have still got a very young baby, so I think probably next year I will do the proper writing of book seven,” said Rowling.

SECURE SIMPSON: Jessica Simpson‘s dad says that rumors of a split between his daughter and her hubby Nick Lachey are dead wrong. As Joe Simpson told PEOPLE: “Do they fight? Hell yes, they fight. Have there been moments when Nick has wanted to leave Jessica or Jess has wanted to leave Nick? Absolutely.” But he’s also quick to add that the squabbles are not a sign of major trouble in the relationship. “(It’s the) same with me and my wife. If fighting is a sign of divorce, then we’re all going to get divorced. My wife and I have been married 27 years. We’ve been at the edge of divorce for 26 of them.”
ANGELINA’S ANGEL: In one of the new pair’s first public appearances, a radiant Angelina Jolie was seen shopping this week with her 6-month-old daughter, Zahara Marley, in Calabasas, Calif., which is near the Malibu home of Brad Pitt. Both the baby and Pitt have been recovering from recent hospital stays at the actor’s estate. Zahara recently spent a week in a New York City hospital battling a bacterial infection that, left untreated, could have been life-threatening. Jolie remained by her new daughter’s side the entire time. Mother and daughter both appeared to be feeling much better this week, when they were spotted in Malibu at a supermarket and toy store and stopping in a Starbucks.
