WEEK IN REVIEW: Hilary's New Gigs

DUFF’S DUE: Hilary Duff may have said goodbye to Disney and her hugely popular “Lizzie McGuire” series, but the teen phenom will be back with two music specials for the WB network, the Associated Press reported. One will be in connection with her 16th birthday on Sept. 28, and the other for Christmas for the 2003-2004 season. Meanwhile, Duff has recorded a solo album and signed for a reported $2 million to do a big-screen “Cinderella.”

PHOTO FINISH: Cameron Diaz asked a Los Angeles court to prohibit the release of pictures taken during a private modeling session more than a decade ago, reported Reuters. The news broke amid a criminal investigation into L.A. photographer John Rutter, who was allegedly trying to sell the pictures. In her lawsuit, the “Charlie’s Angels” star, 30, claims she never gave Rutter permission for the pictures to be made public. (The photos have not been described.)

MAGUIRE MIFFED: Tobey Maguire, 28, is said to be upset with quotes attributed to him in the August issue of Playboy magazine regarding his attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Maguire (who is quoted as saying of AA, “The program just makes sense to me”) has now said in another interview, “I didn’t expect that to be in the article. That was off the record with the journalist, and the journalist betrayed me. … I don’t think it’s a secret that I’ve been sober since I was 19. It’s in half of the articles done about me. Now, it’s like this has become some big revelation.”

RAT PACK: In their new movie “Bad Boys II,” Will Smith and Martin Lawrence share quality screen time with some randy, R-rated rats, the Hollywood Reporter revealed. “When I told (Columbia chairman Amy Pascal) what we wanted to do, she was like, ‘What?!”‘ explained the film’s director Michael Bay (“Pearl Harbor”). “And I was like, ‘Amy, trust me, it’s going to be funny. I found where I can train rats to f— for $3,500! ‘” The studio head complied with Bay’s request.

MATERIAL AD: On July 28, expect to see Madonna, 44, as the new face of Gap in the retail chain’s new multimillion-dollar advertising campaign for its fall line, the Associated Press reported. There are no specifics yet on how the campaign will shape up, but a spokeswoman for the chain said ads also will feature rap star Missy Elliott. As for why the Gap, Madonna’s spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg responded: “Why not Gap?” Rosenberg added that Madonna wears Gap clothes.
