WEEK AHEAD: Mariah Leads the AMAs

Posted on

Mariah Carey is up for top honors at the American Music Awards on Tuesday. PEOPLE takes a look at the big night, plus other events to watch for in the coming Thanksgiving week:

TUESDAY, NOV. 22: Mariah Carey leads the nominees at the American Music Awards, competing for four awards, including favorite pop/rock female artist and favorite album for The Emancipation of Mimi. Hosted by Cedric The Entertainer, the party airs at 8 p.m. ET on ABC from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, Sheryl Crow, Gwen Stefani and The Rolling Stones perform while Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie (separately, we’re sure) and Nick Lachey and Gretchen Wilson hit the stage as presenters.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 23: Faith Hill is back with her second NBC special, Faith Hill: Fireflies, which takes viewers to her two-night stand at L.A.’s Pantages Theater and down to Nashville for a behind-the-scenes look at the multiplatinum-selling singer and her sixth album, Fireflies. It airs at 9 p.m. ET.

Meanwhile, Kenny Chesney fans will be thankful for the singer’s island-themed concert special, Kenny Chesney: Somewhere in the Sun. The show features Chesney’s sold-out concert at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Stadium (with performances of songs including “When the Sun Goes Down”) and follows Renee Zellweger‘s ex down to Virgin Islands, where he has a home, for a more intimate look at his life. The special airs on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

THURSDAY, NOV. 24: Can’t make it to New York City for the Macy’s Thanksiving Day Parade? No problem: Get a presumably warmer seat in front of your TV as Today show host Matt Lauer emcees the annual event filled with floats and towering balloons (Dora the Explorer and Scooby-Doo are two new ones this year). It’ll also give you an excuse to put off making that turkey. The festivities kick off live on NBC at 9 a.m.

Movies (now in theaters): Walk the Line, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon; Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint; Breakfast on Pluto, starring Cillian Murphy
Music (in stores Tuesday): Britney Spears, B in the Mix: The Remixes; Enya, Amarantine,; Scott Stapp, The Great Divide; System of a Down, Hypnotize, John Mayer Trio, Try! John Mayer Trio Live in Concert; Reba McEntire, Reba No. 1’s
