Natalie Morales has a full plate – her husband, two sons, a rescue pup and her job as an anchor on Today – which keeps her busy and without a lot of time for redecorating her home. So she opened her doors to Better Homes and Gardens and the makeover results are beautiful.

Morales wanted to play up her home’s charm while keeping it family-friendly, she tells the magazine in its September Stylemaker issue, on newsstands Aug. 19.

“This house is an old, historic house – a brownstone in Hoboken, New Jersey. You kind of want to keep that sense of character, but at the same time, add a little bit more flair and pop,” she tells BH&G. “I have two boys that are very active. They like to play soccer in my living room! I need a place that kind of allows them to do that, but at the same time, I also want a place for myself that feels like a grown-up living room.”

The Today anchor says her personal decorating style is “easy and comfortable. I like warm neutrals with pops of color.”

Morales, 42, who is mom to Luke Hudson, 5, and Joseph Stockton, 9, adds that her modest upbringing has contributed to her sense of style.

“I think as a little kid, I got a certain sense of style by shopping thrift shops – ’cause that s all my parents could really afford. I could put an outfit together with just about anything.”

And Morales still enjoys finding a good deal. “I love to shop. But I always look for sales, and I never pay full price if I don t have to,” she says.
