It’s been one year since Ben Higgins proposed to Lauren Bushnell on The Bachelor, and the ABC alum is expressing how “lucky” he is to be engaged to his fiancée!

On Friday, the former star of the reality dating series took to Instagram to dedicate a post to Bushnell, whom he gave his final rose to on the season 20 finale.

“One year ago today I proposed to @laurenbushnell and even with the normal relational speed bumps our relationship has continued to mold us both into better partners and better people. I am lucky to have her, we are doing very well! If you want to get us a 1 year anniversary gift purchase this shirt that @theyearofelan (pictured below) partnered with @humanityandhope on,” Higgins, 28, penned.

He also took to Twitter express his appreciation for Bushnell: “One year ago today I started my life with @LaurenBushnell3 and we are better today than ever before.”

Later in the day, Bushnell, 26, shared a snap from the couple’s engagement shoot on Instagram. “1 year with you,” she captioned the sweet photo with an engagement ring emoji.

In October, PEOPLE exclusively revealed a sneak peek at the couple’s engagement shoot. “This was exciting because it was the first tangible thing we got to do in terms of wedding planning and Lauren looked really good in white,” the former Bachelor star told PEOPLE of the couple’s engagement photos, which were taken in the countryside on a hidden path.

Though the pair have said they’re in “no rush” to wed at the altar, they are looking forward to the day. When the time comes for us to get married, we are both excited about making that commitment to spend our life together,” Higgins explained.
