High School Football Player Lands NFL Cheerleader Prom Date with 10,000 Retweets

Michael Ramirez of Crosby, Texas, landed his dream prom date – no, not with flowers, but with retweets.

The newly single 17-year-old decided to take a chance, reports KHOU, after professional cheerleader Caitlyn Beth of the Houston Texans started following him on Twitter. Ramirez sent Caitlyn, 20, a message on the social network, asking: “If I get 10,000 retweets will you go to prom with me?”

The NFL cheerleader, who did not release her full name, was quick to respond with, “Of course I will.” From there, the race to reach Ramirez’s magic number was on. The Crosby High School student posted the conversation with Caitlyn on his Twitter account and asked followers to “RETWEET RETWEET RETWEET.”

In less than 24 hours, Ramirez met his goal. He and his mother are now making special plans for the big dance, but Caitlyn says she is just happy to be included.

“I have no expectations. This night is not about me. It is his senior prom. I will be happy with whatever happens, I just want him to have a good night,” Caitlyn told KHOU. “I am thrilled that I get to do this. I am thrilled that my job allows me to be able to make his prom dreams come true.”

Caitlyn isn’t the first public figure to accept a fan’s event invitation via the Web. Olympic figure skater Gracie Gold agreed to attend prom with a California teen, after the high schooler made a heart-melting video. Adorable virtual invites also worked on Mila Kunis and Kim Kardashian; both attended the Marine Corps Ball as a serviceman’s celebrity date in the past.
