It has been one busy year for country music duo Sugarland. The group released two albums – Gold and Green and CD/DVD Live on the Inside – and toured all year, just to name a few of their activities.

Will Christmas be just as action-packed for Kristian Bush?

“I’m staying [home] this year,” Bush, 39, tells PEOPLE of his lowkey holiday plans. “We travel so very much [that] it’s really hard to get me to go anywhere when we actually have time home.”

And while the glare of the spotlight won’t be fixed on him this holiday season, another light will. “I’m really fascinated by Christmas lights,” he says. “I’ll turn every light in the house off and just sit there. And it’s probably one of the most peaceful things.”

Bush, along with his bandmate Jennifer Nettles performed at this year’s Christmas in Washington special on TNT alongside Mary J. Blige and Usher, so it’s fitting that Sugarland’s Christmas album Gold and Green is a compilation of both classic and original holiday tunes.
