If only more same-sex-marriage activists had the flair of a professional wrestler.
World Wrestling Entertainment legend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin (né Steven James Anderson) delivered an impassioned speech on his podcast last July that’s just beginning to circulate this week.
Austin declared his unequivocal support for same-sex marriage (really, for “any human being in the g––– world who wants to get married; if it’s the same sex, more power to ’em”), but saved his most spirited rhetoric for people against gay marriage, primarily targeting those whose objections are based in religion.
“What also chaps my a––, some of these churches have the high horse that they get on and say, ‘We as a church do not believe in that.’ ” Austin wonders which church “talked to God and God said that same-sex marriage was a no-can-do? Can you verify? Can you give me some background on that 411?”
Given that Austin spent a large portion of his career chugging beer en route to the wrestling ring and was as known for giving the middle finger to anyone and everyone as he was for his athletic prowess, his progressive stance is delighting the Internet.
