Steve Carell is good at making people laugh – but the young men who’ll eventually come calling upon his daughter may end up crying.
“I think I can smell a bull—-ter,” The Office star, 45, tells Men’s Vogue. “If a suitor seems too good to be true, he probably is. And a deal breaker, straight out of the gate, is a guy who pulls to the front of the house and honks.”
Carell has some time – his daughter, Elisabeth, is only 6. Still, it doesn’t hurt to have a plan, and Carell insists his will be nonviolent.
“I don’t think I’m going to be the dad with the shotgun under the couch,” he promises.
Carell also tells the magazine a little about his work life, which seems to consist primarily of trying to make costar John Krasinksi laugh on the set.
“He tries so desperately to hold on,” Carell says, “and when I see him going, it’s like an animal smelling blood. I have to try to finish him off.”
The work is not only enjoyable, he adds, but it may be good for his health.
“To be given license to be completely inappropriate and get away with it is cathartic,” he says. “It’s something that few people experience. I get all of that behavior out of my system so I can go about my life and not let it bleed into personal relationships. If we all had that outlet, we’d probably be much healthier.”
