The gloves will be off on Oct. 24, when Matt Lauer is served up as the luncheon entrée being skewered at the annual Friars Club Roast in New York.

A source tells PEOPLE that both of the Today host’s co-anchors – Katie Couric, from Lauer’s past, and Meredith Vieira, from his present – have agreed to take turns delivering jabs at him at the event. Fellow Today star Al Roker will serve as the afternoon’s roastmaster.

Traditionally, these roasts feature foul language, filthy jokes and merciless ridiculing of all aspects of the guest of “honor” – from his looks to his sex life.

“I fully plan to, like, bring an iPod in my sport jacket and run the headsets up to where they can’t see it into my ears so I won’t even hear half of it,” Lauer, 50, told the Associated Press about the likely humiliation he faces.

“But I will tell you right now: I’m not going to invite my mom or anything like that,” he added. “I have a feeling it’s gonna be way over the edge for someone like that to be there.”

The private event will take place at the New York Hilton. The Friars are a fraternity (and, only recently, a sorority) of comedians.

Recent roastees include Donald Trump, fight promoter Don King and, in 2002, Chevy Chase – whose detractors on the dais included a then-up-and-coming comic named Stephen Colbert.
