Doherty's husband of five years has stood by her side through every step of her illness. "My marriage was always strong, but it's made my marriage a thousand times stronger. I could not have gotten through this without my husband," the actress told Entertainment Tonight. In September, Doherty participated in the #loveyourspousechallenge, sharing pictures of her journey with Iswarienko over the course of seven days. "Sure, I love our wedding pictures and pictures of me with hair and eyelashes and eyebrows, but my favorite pictures are of us now," she captioned the final image of the series. "Now because now is the challenge. It's challenging to love thru grief, sickness, an uncertain future. It's hard to feel sexy and beautiful when going thru chemo and therefore it's challenging to allow one to love you. I imagine my husband has faced challenges during this time with me and yet here we are... stronger than ever. More in love than ever. More trusting, more supportive. More confident with one another. Just more."

SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR
"I'm starting #totaltuesday and dedicating it to @sarahmgellar," Doherty wrote on Instagram in August. "Why? Because she's the total package. Smart, funny, beautiful and a great friend. She's that friend that is always there when you need her no matter what. Loyal and loving to the bone. I am blessed for many reasons and she's one of them." Gellar returned the affectionate words on her account, writing of Doherty, "I've always said she is one of the most loyal friends I've ever known, and now while she is facing the toughest journey of her life, she is sharing it with friends she has never met in the hopes of helping other people who are going through the same struggle. That's a true friend."
The duo traded posts again in October on International Breast Cancer Day. "To my left is the @theshando, my friend who is kicking cancer in the you know what," wrote Gellar. "But more than that, she is sharing her battle, so people fighting this horrible disease know they are not alone. I am inspired by her on the daily." "It's so important when battling a disease like cancer to have friends like @sarahmgellar thank you for always having my back and educating all about this disease. Love you," Doherty posted in response.

Doherty's dog Bowie was actually the first to realize something was wrong with her health. "She would obsessively sniff right here on my right side for a long time before. So, it made sense when I got diagnosed," the actress told Entertainment Tonight. Since Doherty began treatment, her loyal pet has become even more attentive. "When I got back from surgery, [Bowie] again was kind of right in this area," she shared. "Then when I had my first chemo, she would sniff my entire body up and down. And she was always protective before, but she has become this crazy, protective dog. It's hard to get close to me when she's around."

"Relying on friends to help the cancer journey is essential and @chriscortazzo happens to be amazing at making me laugh, feel loved, cherished and allows me to be my true self at all times thru this process," Doherty wrote about her real estate agent friend in September. "I've learned that my vulnerability is something to embrace... Not mask. Thank you Chris for being my rock." Cortazzo even joined Doherty's mom Rosa and friend Anne Marie Kortright in helping out with her July head-shaving. "Thank you to these three who helped me thru an impossibly tough day and continue to be there every minute supporting and loving me," Doherty captioned a photo of the trio.

"I've reached out to her … and I try to continue to reach out to her once a week," Doherty's former Charmed costar told Entertainment Tonight in October. "I tweeted, I [direct-messaged] her and I obviously told her my concern and how everyone was on her side, and we're all supporting her, and she was very appreciative that I reached out, which was very sweet … It's such a horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible illness, so to see anyone struggle like that in such a public way is heartwarming and gut-wrenching all at the same time." Milano also re-gramed a photo from Doherty's head-shaving process, adding the caption, "Shannen, we are all in your corner wishing you health and love!"

ROSA ELIZABETH DOHERTY
Doherty has been leaning on her mother, Rosa, since her shocking diagnosis. "Sometimes there's nothing like a mother's love to help get you thru. Thank you mom for always being there and being so strong for me. I love you," Doherty wrote on Instagram. Rosa helped the star shave her head in July, has accompanied her to chemo treatments and is there when "you just want to collapse on the couch and watch tv with your mom." "Thank God I have her and thank God she is there," Doherty said on Entertainment Tonight. "She is so strong, and my mom is like a steel magnolia. She is a Southern girl, and she puts on this very strong face with me. She is constantly looking stuff up and, you know, she will force-feed me Gatorade chips."

In July, Priestly opened up about his admiration for his former Beverly Hills, 90210 star's candidness and revealed that he has been following her journey on social media. "What she did the other day, shaving her head and posting the pictures and everything, that was incredibly brave," he told Entertainment Tonight. "Shannen's a strong kid and a tough fighter and I know that she's gonna come through this fight and she's gonna be okay."

ANNE MARIE KORTRIGHT
Close friend Kortright has been a loving companion to Doherty throughout her cancer battle. "No stronger warrior to stand by than you Shannen. You will get through this and we will be here by your side every step of the way. Love you to the moon and back," Kortright said on Instagram in July, adding in an October post, "Love this girl so much. Will always be there for you no matter what!!" "Love girls night with @annemkortright helping me celebrate feeling good enough to eat before Wednesday's chemo. #bff #fightlikeagirl #cancersucks #warrior," Doherty captioned a sweet photo in August.

In September, McGowan showed her support for Doherty — whom she replaced on Charmed in 2001 — by posting an illustration of the pair side-by-side along with a heartfelt message. "Dear [Shannen] someone made this of us & I wanted to share it with you as it made me reflect," she wrote. "We have a funny history. As young women we were pitted against each other for society’s pleasure. The rules of Hollywood engagement brainwashed into us were truly vile. The men & brainwashed women in our business made it so we couldn't be friends, I regret that…Instead of understanding that we were a different breed, they tried to crush us, but they couldn't. I send you strength."

The Chelsea host gave her friend an Instagram shout-out for Breast Cancer Awareness month. "It's breast cancer awareness month so let's all contribute in any way you can. Even, if it's just spending some extra time with someone you know who is fighting the disease," Handler captioned a sweet photo. Doherty later shared the photo on her account as well, writing, "We met many many years ago. Have run into each other and always exchanged numbers, talked of plans etc. Chelsea reached out and has since, made a point to have date nights with me on a weekly basis. Yeah she's funny but also wicked smart with a huge heart. This one just wants to make a difference. Sometimes the right people come into your life at the right time."
