O.J. Simpson surrendered to Miami authorities on Friday and posted $9,000 bond on two charges stemming from a December traffic altercation in which he allegedly ripped the glasses off a motorist’s face and scratched him, reports the Associated Press and CNN.com. Simpson, 53, walked into a Miami-Dade county jail at noon on Friday, then was taken by police car to the back of the sprawling jail to be booked on burglary and assault charges. He made no comment to reporters as he walked to the police car. Simpson is charged with a second-degree felony count of theft from an occupied automobile and misdemeanor first degree battery. He could be sentenced to 15 years on the felony charge and a year on the misdemeanor. Motorist Jeffrey Pattinson, 55, told police that on Dec. 4 he was driving in suburban Kendall, Fla., where Simpson now lives, when a black Lincoln Navigator ran a stop sign and cut him off. Pattinson said he slammed on his brakes and honked his horn at the Navigator. The Navigator stopped, and, Pattinson said, Simpson got out and walked toward his car, shouting, “So I blew the stop sign. What are you going to do, kill me and my kids?” Pattinson said he heard a young girl shouting, “No, Daddy, no, Daddy, no!” when Simpson reached into his car and grabbed his glasses, causing a small scratch on his face. Simpson has denied any wrongdoing. He said Pattinson shouted at him and he shouted back, then returned to his car and drove his two youngest children, Sydney, 15, and Justin, 12, home. Simpson’s attorney described the incident as “road rage misunderstanding.” “Mr. Simpson is not the aggressor,” Yale Galanter said. A jury acquitted Simpson of the June 1994 slayings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. In a subsequent civil trial, Simpson was found liable for the killings in a suit filed by their families. He was ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages. Since last year, when Simpson moved to the Miami area, police have responded four times to reported disturbances between Simpson and his on-again-off-again girlfriend, Christie Prody. In late January, police were called to his home after a neighbor called to report an argument. Prody told police Simpson was angry that she came home late.
