An auction held at the Martha’s Vineyard home of singer Carly Simon has earned more than $100,000 for a local charity. The evening promised “stories, songs and snacks,” but some bidders walked away with the promise of future meals. Among the items on the block were a lunch with Diane Sawyer and husband Mike Nichols (it went for $28,000) and dinner with former first lady Lady Bird Johnson (that fetched $8,000). The top take, however, was reserved for the hostess: An anonymous bidder pledged $65,000 for a personal session with Simon. Proceeds of the Possible Dreams Auction will benefit community services on Martha’s Vineyard.
