The Internet is for cats. This is an indisputable fact.

But in 2013, dogs made a valiant effort for the title of “Internet Animal of Record,” thanks to the doge meme, which pairs the “much majesty” thoughts of Shiba Inus over pictures of the often puzzled-looking pooches.

Yep, it’s a weird meme. But 2013 was a weird year. Take a look back at what reigned online.
